ISO288-1 VS DIN259 VS BS2779

Aug 02, 2024

ISO 288-1, DIN 259, and BS 2779 are all standards related to pipe threads, specifically parallel threads for pipes and fittings without pressure-tight joints. Here's a comparison of these standards:

Equivalence:
These standards are essentially equivalent and refer to the same type of thread, commonly known as BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) or G thread.

History and Replacement:
DIN 259 was the original German standard for Whitworth cylindrical threads.
BS 2779 was the British standard for parallel pipe threads ("Threads for pipes and fittings without thread sealing").
ISO 228-1 (which includes ISO 288-1) has replaced both DIN 259 and BS 2779 as the current international standard.
